Richard Thompson: West Coast Kinda Guy??

Richard Thompson is recording the concerts from a February tour of the West Coast for a live album of all new material.
I am sure I am not the only person who thinks that the emergence of limitless tracks on songs has resulted in an excess that can seriously hurt a song. Really, U2’s last album was such an overproduced mess you couldn’t get to the songs for all the layers of gook. It sounds like a woman with too much make-up on looks: pasty, cracked, lined and unreal.
One answer is the folks at Odessa Records who always let the music breath. Another is the analogue producers at daytrotter.com: the brides stripped bare, to quote Bryan Ferry.Of course, self-control might help. But finally, recording the songs live always works.
Thompson hasn’t released an albun that has knocked me out since you? me? us? from 1996. Let’s hope this is that.
