Nitsuh Abebe's silly New York Mag article on narcissists, pop music and the young generation (he's for it) I don't think generations, I don't think people, have changed so much… ever. As far as people in, say, 1066 being able to live in 1966 -well, maybe they couldn't but their character would be instantly recognizable and their brains quite big enough. What they dubbed as morality would be pretty damn similar.
And as far as music is concerned, what connects music together is DANCING, the essential use of music in 1711 and 2011 is EXACTLY THE SAME: SO YOU CAN MOVE YOUR ASS. Where's the shocker there?
The narcissism is rubbish.
As far as rock is concerned… music goes in and out of style.
And as far as the performers are concerned: what's the shocker there? It has always been a lower class way of becoming middle class. Where does Diana Ross end and Rihanna begin?
A whole lotta trend about nothing. Decide for yourself http://nymag.com/arts/popmusic/features/narcissism-2011-7/
