Taking The Music Initiative At Their Word

rock nyc writer Kyle Cannon has been MIA for the past month or so and finally got in touch to update us on his doings: "I started doing an  internship in late May with a video production company in Charleston  called Go To Team.  I've been doing research to help expand our music  market doing videos, live shows, interviews, etc."

His boss there has started a monthly on line website called The Music Initiative. Kyle sent me the link and I've checked it out and I love it to pieces.

This is literally an on line magazine with a front page and a back page and great ORIGINAL pix and content. It looks like a dream -like those 90s bastard children of Interview: that's what it is, it is a glossy, arty, lovely to look at and informative magazine.

Editor -In Chief Becca Finley is a renaissance woman and multi-media savant  in the new media, working at everything from programming Director to Director of Public Relations. Along with Managing Editor Kara Klein (who cut her teeth here managing bands) she has created a pretty good musical vision: mix of local and alt with some classic stuff in the mix. Their April issue has Black Lewis and Irma Thomas on the cover. A little light on pop and hip hop, but it is still early days.

Still, despite excellent and different editorial content, it is as an integrated Website, a magazine alive on the web, that The Music Initiatives is completely one of a kind. Creative Director Alyson Martell and Graphic Designer Joel Travis are gonna find themselves with a lot of friends very soon: their work here is eyepoppinfg and a total blast to look at, I mentioned Interview, but maybe it is more like The Face. The pages jump out at you, the colors are sexy and fun, and at 40 pages it isn't even long enough.
