Top Live Sets 2009!!!

yes sets, not concerts!!!
Boyz Noize at Summerstage, August 9th – The last song before the encore with the German DJ scratching and raising the bass higher and higher was such a revelation for me that I’ve spend the rest of the year catching up on Dance Music.

Aretha Franklin at Radio City Music Hall – Unbelievable set and the hightlight was her summoning the spirit of Curtis mayfield on “Sparkle”.

Bruce Springsteen at MSG, October – The one in which he played The Wild, The Innocent And The E Street Shuffle.

Regina Spektor at the Beacon Theatre -pre tour “rehearsal” and Regina was in a fabulous mood.

Paul Simon at Beacon Theatre, February 14th – A three hour trip thru his career with an Art Garfunkle finale. I’ve seen the man many times and never seen him better.

Los Campesinos at Bowery Ballroom, February 15th – Last date on the We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed tour and Gareth was on fire. The whole band crammed together, cramming together. And encored with “You’ll Need Those Fingers For Crossing” -right over the top, they went.

Ornette Colemen at Lincoln Center, October – Harmolodics inventor shows how to do it.

Shinobi Ninja at Santos Playhouse, December – Only four songs but a complete thrill with Baby Girl the big surprise.
