What To Listen To When You Have a Cold

Batling a bad cold and an achy body where all you want to do is close your eyes and stop thinking? I feel your pain and how. So what do you want to listen towhen you’re not sure you’re gonna make it thru?

Choose something quiet and something you know very well.

Stuff like Frand Sinatra’s Reprise Greatest hits from the 60s where the “Summer Wind” can hush your unsettled soul, the second side of the Beatles Abbey Road , the ending of the album, “Golden Slumbers” , will calm your jagged soul. Louise Amstrong, a live album for the sixties with “Sleepy Time Down South” on it.

There’s a time (most of the time actually) where you want Miles Davis’ Black Magus, but when you’re feeling ill turn to one of Davis’ Gil Evans collabs, Sketches Of Spain will sooth your mind like chicken soup.

You want stuff to remind you of your youth. The Mama’s and the Papa’s Deliver does it for me. I don’t want to feel threatened or to feel as though some bad connection to a lost love is beiing made. However, if I do want to go into the modern world I would maybe try Ryan Adams Cardinology.

When you are sick you feel as if your body is attacking you and you don’t want anything to remind you of the hundreds of ways you may be attacked from the outside: from love or crime or fear or money or politics or even just the ticking of your brain. You don’t need speed, you need soft slow sweetness. So my last choice would be Ella, her new one, 12 Nights In Hollywood. And that’s exactly what I’m listening to.
