Pitchfork is Ryan Schrider’s self-owned website specializing in Indie Rock. It’s been going since the mid-90s and is extremely influential, but here are my two problems with it:
1) The writing is a little self-centered and verbose without the necessary sense of fun. They lack the freewheeling spirit of prime Creem.
2)I trust em on indie, even if I don’t agree with em on it all. But that’s it. They are bland on every other musical genre.
Now here’s what I like about Pitchfork.
1) They aren’t the well practised fellatists at Rolling Stone.
2) They do care.
3) They get scoops which Rock NYC steals -but so does everybody else of course.
In plain English they are the best of the lot. If only they’d widen their horizons and go easier..
