We showed up with no tickets, with the grand master plan of getting in for free. After doing a complete perimeter check, and talking to all personnel of any significance, we determined we were going to need some tickets. After a brief struggle, the Zarkers, Madge, and myself found a bunch of 4 and ventured in, having missed the first 4 songs.
I am not the hugest of Phish fans, I don't follow them across the country, I do not listen to Phish in my car, and I don't even own a single piece of Phish Merchandise. I do however love good live shows, and embarking on adventures where the middle and end are uncertain, ( it sure beats spending my Saturday watching last years NFL playoffs).
As I was discussing with friend Cyrus, seeing Trey is like seeing Lebron; you don't necessarily have to like the team, or even the sport, but you can at least respect the level of greatness. After a brief debate, the analogy went from Lebron to Carmelo Anthony to Jordan, (because he at least needs a title), "No way man! Jerry Garcia is Jordan," then we finally settled on Paul Pierce. But after Dallas's NBA championship title win, I think Trey is Dirk.
Regardless, it was a great show, and by the time the sun went down, the moon was high in the sky, and the light show began blowing my mind.. but in a good way.
I was eagerly awaiting "Tweezer," easily my favorite Phish jam, and wasn't sure if we would get it, b/c they were repeating Merriweather the next day.. but to my amazement they not only rocked "Tweezer for a good 12-15 minutes, but we also got a "Tweezer" (reprise) to close out the show.
It was an overall great night, I'm already pumped for Phish June '12. But if you arent an annual Phish goer like myself, they will be east coast until July 3rd, and then in California/Washington for August, and in Colorado in early September
