Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax . . . the rumors are true!
Announced on Monday, the original 4 thrash metal bands will be part of one bill, actually a few bills. They will all play at the Sonisphere shows in Poland and Czech Republic on June 16 and 19, 2010. This is a huge deal for any metal head. Given the fact that Dave Mustaine from Megadeth was fired from Metallica. For years both bands traded jabs in the press.
Too bad these guys are not playing the states. Not a big Slayer fan, but would definitely go to see them as well as the other bands. Never saw Anthrax live, but love their music.
Got this quote from a posting online from Lars: “Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal’s big 4 would not only still be around and more popular than ever, but will now play together for the first time…what a mindfuck! Bring it on!”
I am sure if these shows are going to be as successful as they are planning, this is bound to be one hell of a tour. I can see this show playing the new Giants Stadium or MSG. The big question is…who will open the show and who will close the show. With these 4 bands, there will be a lot of egos flying around. My guess is that Metallica will close the show since they have always been the biggest band of them all. 2nd headliner will be Slayer since they have just as huge following as Metallica (but never made the main-steam crossover). 3rd headliner will be Megadeth just because of Dave Mustaine’s ego (he would not want to open). That leaves Anthrax opening the show. I say this cause they have been through a few different leads singers through the years, and they are not as big as they were back in the day. In fact, they only time you really hear about them is when Scott Ian appears on a VH-1 reality show or a “80s” themed show on the network.
Anyway, this should be great.
See ya on the road.
