New Music Week Of May 30th, 2011: Dawwes of A New Age

Rhoda's Theme – Fall On Your Swords – Space age, alternative weirdness by former LCD Soundsystem. An authentically daft Punky (but current daft punky) bleeping modern sounding other worldly sound machine.  Part of their soundtrack to the awesome looking "Another Planet"

Walk At Night – Cults – Cutesy wootsy, pleasant alty but desperately ordinary.

Headlong In The Abyss – We Are Augustina – Sounds like Pearl Jam with a worse vocalist and more obsessed with making a point. Though whenever a band rises an octave to the break and then rise another octave, then go down two octaves and do it again, have no doubt it is U2 they want to be.

Family Tree – Black Lips – Wow, this sucks. WTF??? Last year these guys were wrestling WAVVES for best punk rock band, this year they are waiting for their close up.

She's The Thunderstorm – Arctic Monkey – And that should wrap it up. My bet? After this disaster Alex goes solo, writes the music to "A Clockwork Orange" on Broadway "Turn On The Glam".

Morning Thought – Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. – Experimental weirdness but crafted on a kicky handclapping back beat. Kinda Beatley…

Never Lookin' Back – The Kenny Wayne Shepherd band – What becomes a blues protegee best? More of the same, over and over again. Nice bottle neck on the break.

Satisfied At Last – Joe Levy – What becomes a country legend most? Not this dreary quasi-blues crap.

The Band Lachrymose – Wynton Marsalis and Joey Calderozza – What becomes a jazz legends big brother most? This is mood wind instruments on a dark trip down.

Richochet – Sondre Leche – This Scandinavian's last album was excellent sing-songwriter, well arranged pop. And this sure ain't.

This Is All Now – Taking Back Sundays – I'm guessing it's the band name that is pissing off the Christian right. The band themselves are dreadful

Copy, Paste – Digsy – Geeez, this is just the most boring rap I've ever heard -except for the drum machine which is a clever enough pattern.

Never Fall Out – Peter Murphy – Why is it when Goth grows up it sounds like Bryan Ferry with a sore throat?

Bad Enough For You – All Time Low – I am ignoring this band because of its name, shouldn't these guys be hardcore or something? This is an excellent slab of pure pop, rock standardized test. Terrific song. TRACK OF THE WEEK.

Quite Nice people – Ida Maria – Her worst song to date is like Bertold Brecht wrapped in bubblegum. What gives???
