I really hate it when people bash bands for silly reasons, or without any at all.
Westboro Baptist Church has decided to picket Taking Back Sunday's show in Seattle June 18th.
Seriously?
Here's what WBC said:
"WBC will picket Taking Back Sunday at The Showbox Concert with a message for those in attendance, to wit: God Hates Fags, and God Hates Fag-Enablers; ergo, God Hates america and america is Doomed! This nation is awash in filthy sin and idolatry, including your pop stars like Taking Back Sunday who have the ear of millions and refuse to use that platform God gave them to teach obedience to God's standards. If they opened their mouths to warn you that your sins are taking you to hell, their concerts would be empty, as would their pockets and bank accounts. They will give an account to God for their failure to do their duty."
You have to be freaking kidding me.
First of all, "if they opened their mouths to warn you that your sins are taking you to hell, their concerts would be empty". Christian bands get plenty of popularity, so much that it's actually stunning statistically in this "nation awash in filthy sin".
The band hasn't responded to this, but I'll continue and pretty much respond how I would.
Okay, so these Baptists are clearly angry with the band, but the funny thing is that Taking Back Sunday hasn't a single negative thing on religion anywhere. Maybe they don't believe in God, but they aren't preaching being against religion or God, nor are they "praisin' Satan and makin' that devil music". They're just musicians doing what they love, why are they being judged so harshly.
And don't even get me started on God hating "fags". That's an entire other issue.
This church had absolutely no right to step up and say this. The band never even did anything to provoke this.
It's things like this that not only anger me, but make me slowly lose faith in humanity. If we can't simply respect a band, how can we ever respect ourselves and others?
Just let it go, WBC. Accept them, as God would- shouldn't you be setting an example?
