My music files on random part 1
Hypnotized-Fleetwood Mac-
Pretty sure that’s Bob Welch on vocals. His vocal track is amazing here. The real lure of this track for me is (surprise) the drums. The intro is Mick Fleetwood on kit, laying down the groove, and it smokes, folks. Is that Christine Mc Vie on backing vox? No reason why it wouldn’t be. Her voice is so pure. I need to hear more Fleetwood Mac from this era.
High And Dry-Rolling Stones
From the “Aftermath” album- Nice stereo mix. Charlie’s hi hat is discernable in the right speaker and Lead acoustic on the left. Jagger’s vox solid if not unspectacular. Izzat Brian Jones on harmonica? Pretty great front porch blues for a bunch of limey posers. On second thought, I’d rather hear this in mono, that hi hat is too loud.
Nothing Can Bring Me Down-Mark Eitzel
Eitzel is really morose, almost a downer. His songs are so great, tho. Great singing voice , too. Half way through this he fucks up a chord and just laughs it off. Live club performance after he left American Music Club the first time. Recommended.
I’m Down-Beatles (live at Shea Stadium)
Crappy recording, but they’re smoking hot thanks to Ringo.
Nothing That I didn’t Know-Procol Harum
This is off the awesome “Home” album. Very underrated band that delivered more than it’s share of quality albums. BJ Wilson is a vastly underrated drummer.
When I Grow Up To Be A Man-Beach Boys (Takes 19-36) -Today Sessions
O boy it’s so funny to hear Brian lose patience with Dennis while he’s trying to lay down the drum intro. One of the few BB songs from this album that has all three brothers playing instruments. BW plays piano, Carl on guitar, Al on bass. Tempers really flare up in this session. Riotous.
Nick Drake-Man In A Shed
Love the song but it’s one of my least favorite Drake recordings. More proof that although the record company loved him, they had no idea on how to record him much less market him. The stand-up bass and piano stick out like a sore thumb and compete with Nick’s awesome as always finger picking. Great song, crappy recording.
Frank Zappa and The Mothers-Concentration Moon
From “We’re Only In It For The Money”-Absolutely essential. Zappa’s greatest message ever put to music.
As relevant today as it was back then. Even more so.
In The Back Of My Mind-(takes 23-27) Beachboys-Today sessions
Back with The Wrecking Crew, BW calling the shots in the studio. One of his most beautiful compositions.
At one point Brian asks Don Randi if he “has a problem” and the tape stops.
No Reason-The Clash
From the “Rude Boy” boot, Helen Wheels Bach actually laid this on me back when we both worked for he who will not be named. Strummer at the piano.
The War Of The Worlds-Small Faces
I used to be such a big Jam fan until I heard Small Faces do everything Weller tried to do on one album within the scope of one song.
That’s all for now, gotta make dinner and the “Canes are coming on.
