My Chemical Romance Boston House of Blues, Thursday, May 5, 2011

I went to go and see My Chemical Romance at House Of Blues Boston.

Wow.

I'd always heard that they were good live, but this was unbelievable.  I realized that when a band created a family, a community, then shows take on a whole new feel.  It's not like you're at that show alone, by yourself, or just isolated like at normal shows.  When there's a family, everyone is next to each other, singing, smiling, laughing, and talking.  No one's alone.  No one is left out.

The band played through their really popular tunes like "Welcome To The Black Parade", "Na Na Na", "Teenagers", and "Helena".  Even when they played lesser-known songs like "Vampires Will Never Hurt You" and "Give 'Em Hell, Kid", the crowd still was singing along.  With everyone singing and having fun, there was so much positive energy.

As a huge fan of MCR, it was great to see the boys in action.  I felt proud as they were up there doing their thing, happy and excited.

Inbetween a few songs, Gerard asked who had been a fan for a while, and who was a new fan.  Then he said "I'd just like to thank all the old fans for being so nice to the new fans".  I never realized until he said it, but it really was a room full of acceptance.  We were all there to see the same band, and regardless of how long we'd been singing their songs and saying their name we considered ourselves all one group of fans.

They left the stage for a few minutes, but the lights didn't go down- they came right back only it was just Gerard and their keyboardist.  He sang beautifully through "Cancer", and it was touching and perfect.  Their last song was "Bulletproof Heart", strong and loud and the crowd went nuts.

Everyone walked away from that show feeling like a Killjoy.  I had waited eight years to see MCR live and it couldn't have been more perfect.
