My Fave Tracks, Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

1.. Kitsch – Poly Styrene – Like Germ free Adolescent, Generation Indigo, is a snapshot of a time and place under the jaundice eye of Poly who sees (saw) the world as skewered by sense of self and place. However, this batch of songs are tempered by time and temperament, so the harshness (even vocally) is different. This is a great rocker with a quigly synth line and a hard rockin' drummer. Fabulous.

2. John – Lil Wayne – Might well be the best hip hop song I've heard this year, though it has taken forever to catch my ear. A bad riddlin' near the start (the "legs around my neck" put me off) but I have listened to it a lot since then and not only is Lil Wayne at the top of his game, so is Rick Ross. And though the sample (kinda twilight zone-y) is iffy the central metaphor is absolutely masterful.

3. Waitin' On The Sky – Steve Earle – The newbie is too folkie… I was hoping, especially because of the title, right?- for a guitar town extravaganza but considering the most boring producer in the world is behind it, it could be much worse.  This is the first song on it and it is an excellent banjo based melodic gem.

4. Dance (Disco Heat) – Sylvester – I don't know why this guy kinda passed me by at the time. This is as good as disco ever got at least until chic made it cool. As good, sometimes better than Tramps, Tavares, K C… maybe it's the singing or maybe it’s the beasts. This guy is ripe for sampling BIG BIG BIG time.

5. The Great Curve – Talking Heads

6. The Lazy Song – Bruno Mars – Wow, it took him forever to choose a follow her and he choose this ska number with "Marry You" in the wings. Go figure.

7. Identity – X-Ray Specs – As a great a statement about life in the 20th century as you will ever hear, it should be the soundtrack for Generation None.

8. #Jetsago – Curren$y – Heavy duty rap with an awesome sample -kinda 60 soully and the rapper has big time flow if not big time voice.

9. Unorthodox – Rap 2011 – I don't care if it's a cover, they rap the hell out of that sample.
