Rock N Roll Castration by Helen Bach and Iman Lababedi

Sorry used to be the hardest word, ask Elton John

Now? Well now were so sorry we’ve lost our cool

The latest news that Pete Dougherty is oh so sorry for offending the Germans is just another in a stream of blubbering bull crap

What the hell happened to rock and roll angst?

Has rock and roll become so stripped down sterilized homogenized squeaky clean that we no longer have a rebel yell? I thought rock was supposed to offend people, wasn’t that the point? Did the Beatles say you want a Revolution than say ‘oops sorry maybe you don’t’?

Were human but were also a bit to politically correct these days. I wonder if it’s the fear of casting out a demographic that could potentially pay your mortgage.

SHOULD WE CARE?

We Gasp in shock on Monday and are begged for forgiveness on Tuesday.

Gimme a break. Rock and Roll has been castrated. Please pass the sugar Nigel….

Rockers threw TVs out of windows and puked in a pool. Jim Morrison? Elvis Presley? Johnny Rotten? Ever hear sorry I if I offended you from them? Heck no.

Rockers today are airbrushed and tinted and puke out only the words provided for and censored by their handlers.

Lady Ga Ga, Lambert, Kanye. Mr Manson… keep it up.. And quit freaking apologizing.

Shock me, Scare me, offend me but stick to it.  Don’t pretend to be a badass and then pullback. It’s all or nothing or else you’re just a joke.

From presley thru grunge rock was us against them and we were anything they weren’t. Digital music killed it: it became them against us as they tried to stop us downloading their music for free and we became the enemy. Brooklyn might be about many things but it sin’t about ANY FORM of political contribtion, attribution or retribution. I think what New York didn’t say was that the Brooklyn music scene is mostly about music distribution.. The New Brunswick Basement scene is about rebelliousness, about ignoring, skirting, passing by on musical scenes where you have to be twenty one years old to enter.

Shit, college kids can’t even be a part of the musical revolution.

So why not suck up to everybody in sight. One note apologize and go to rehab. Political rock is a democratic mouthpiece, the mainstreaming of pop means teenagers, though more than ever they are represented by teenagers, means that the quality that made rock unique is finito.

Castrated? It doesn’t have big enough balls…
