Earlier today I posted on the live performance at the White House’s first State Dinner for the Prime Minister of India. I also mentioned A. R. Rahman played. What i didn’t know was Rock NYC’s fave singer in the world Falu was performing with Rahman last night.
Here is the press release. if I find any pics I’ll post em as well:
“Falu Joins A.R. Rahman to Perform “Jai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire at State Dinner hosted by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minster of India
November 24, 2009 – Falu, a classically trained Indian vocalist whose songwriting combines Hindi music with an inventive rock sound, is honored to join Academy Award-winning composer A.R. Rahman to perform Slumdog Millionaire’s “Jai Ho” at the official White House State Dinner on November 24th, 2009. Hosted by President and Mrs. Obama, the dinner will welcome Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Falu previously performed “Jai Ho” with Rahman at the recent Time 100 Gala which honored Time’s most influential people of 2008 including First Lady Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey.
Falu is the NYC-based, classically trained Indian vocalist who combines Hindi music with a pop/rock sound. Recently, Falu has been setting aside her electric guitar, keyboards and drums for performances favoring more classical and traditional Indian music. Embracing her roots and musical culture, passed on to her by her mentor Ustad Sultan Khan and representative of the 10th generation of musical legacy, Falu draws from some of the richest classical, semi-classical and folk traditions of India.
Falu has performed for the Dalai Lama at Lincoln Center, appeared on the companion CD to Deepak Chopra’s book The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire, was invited to perform with Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project and is currently serving as one of Carnegie Hall’s Music Ambassadors to New York City, where she recently held a sold out performance. Her live performances have been featured nationally on FOX TV and internationally on National Geographic TV, while her voice has been captured in multiple films including Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut A Place in Time.”
