A Bob Dylan Christmas: “I Am A True Believer”

In their mission statement NASNA state: “NASNA exists to support and cultivate an effective, self-sustaining street newspaper network that promotes power and opportunity for people living in poverty”.

I am sure you have seen homeless people selling the tabloid on the streets to help support themselves.

Former Musician magazine editor Bill Flanagan interviewed Bob Dylan mostly about Dylan’s gowawful Christmas album, for NASN  and Flanagan was excellent in eliciting some pearls of wisdom from the diffident man.

Of most interest is Dylan’s reply to Flannagan’s prescient commentt about Dylan’s vocal on “o Little Town Of Bethlehem”: Flanagan asked “I don’t want to put you on the spot, but you sure deliver that song like a true believer.”, Dylan replied “I am a true believer” and in four words ended two decades of speculation fueled in part by Dylan writing in his memoir (and I  paraphrase) music is my religion.

In lighter mode, Dylan details his idea of a good Christmas dinner as “Mashed potatoes and gravy, roast turkey and collard greens, turnip greens, biscuit dressing, corn bread and cranberry sauce.”

Dylan also notes that his Grandkids probably have never heard his songs (I beg to differ) and he doesn’t listen to rap.
