I’ve had my doubts about the new Strokes album sincehearing about how the band were not not recording with Julian Casablanca, he was arricving later and ending his vocals.
That is a recipe for a disaster.
Worse still, is the preposterous concept of everybody writing a song. Anybody who has heard the solo albums by the various members of the band will recognize immediately that Phrazes For The Young is vastly superior to Albert and Fabrizio’s attempts.
It is really this simple: Julian is a great songwriter and the rest of the band isn’t.
Now comes thisJulian quote from NY Mag:”I try to keep a high standard … I think ‘collaboration Strokes’ is more on the side of just poppy than what I am interested in personally. I’ll take what I can get so I’m happy.”
This is after saying he is 60% happy with the new album.
Yikes.
As ringing endorsements go that one sounds like a beward the ides of march if anything does!
