Tour Life: Free Time

3/5 we played a show in Cocoa Beach Florida at 321 Local Rock Bar. It was fun, great vibes, enough people, sold some merch, made some fans. Score!
It was an early show, and we were at hotel by midnight ready for sleep, and after some work it was bedtime. I give the crew the DL for tomorrow; wake up at 11, check out at 12, head to Tarpon Springs for our Sunday night gig..then i get an email- “3/6 show Cancelled.” It was bull shit, something about not having any local support, and the bar didnt want to lose money.. If it was my show, we not only would have found local support, but the show would have gone on. The show MUST go on, this is fucking show biz people.
No worries, it was a Sunday anyway.
We get a day off.
The Ninjas and a day off.
Crack the dutch. Break it down. Roll it up. That’s whats up.
We immediately start resourcing in any way possible to get a show. Days off are cool, but we came to rock. And as I said the show must go on.
We started calling bars, picking our new fans brains for venues, talking to the local band, Starlight Getaway we played with the night before, even made friends with a tatted up stranger in the parking lot who was almost done with his half gallon of Jameson when we met, it was noon. I had a good feeling.
Due to the fact that he was actually an outlaw, a fugitive who was on the way to turn himself in for a 30-day sentence in jail, I will leave his name out of this story.
We started talking, passing around the bottle, and next thing we know, his brother owns a bar/venue right on the beach about ten minutes away. He also recommended another venue which is especially popular on Sunday that we should test the waters. Great we had a lead.
We headed to the beach booiiii.
Spotted a thrift shop upon arrival. Goldmine. I still was so boosted about the teal kord shorts i scored in Tampa, i felt no need to shop.
I ran up in the first venue, made some friends, they were booked. Across the street to another, booked, buut a lead on another spot, Surfers Sports Pub, I get a name.  Lunch break to Dennys, making calls throughout lunch, desperately searching for a free stage to rock on. And this is a day off.
I give Adam from Surfers a call, he’s booked too, buuut hes free for Tuesday night. So are we, lets do it brother!
Alright we got a show, go us! Crack the dutch. Break it down. Roll it up. That’s whats up.
Now we actually get some free time, lets go to the beach booiii. But to trick ourselves, we bring out guitars onto the beach too. We watch scantily clad ladies throw chairs at mean boys, we make some friends, we gaze out to the ocean, we take in the sun, people watch, nap, feet in the sand, knees in the ocean. Its only an hour, but that FREE time was amazing.. I even turned off my cell phone.
Time to drive to Orlando, the hotels are almost half the price as those in Cocoa Beach. But no worries people of Cocoa Beach, the Ninjas will be back this Tuesday at Surfers Pub.
