1. Big Girl – Darlings – Yup. lo-fi fuzzed out bliss shoegaze, etc, etc, etc. But here is the difference. This is a terrific song that jumps genre and labels with ease. I have the EP, Warma, and will get round to a full review.
2. Heavenly – Ron Sexsmith – Suddenly the world is filled with melodic pop songs. “Where there is love, there’s an open door”. Great song if you’re in love, heartbreaker if you wish you were. I can’t recommend his new album highly enough.
3. The Afterlife – Paul Simon – This is important lyric because of its wry banality.
4. Be Bop A Lula – Gene Vincent – Absolutely this is what you should say to God when you meet it.
5. The Wall – Yuck – This is the English version of showgaze semi-lo fi
6. Teenage Girl – Darlings – So “Big Girl” was no fluke.
7. With You – Marsha Ambrosius – If Prince could write like this today, he’d still be having hits.
8. Silver – The Morning Code
9. Turn It Gold – Hesta Prynn
10. Black Girls In Dresses- Tony Castle – Shape-shifting pop moment.
