Different Gear, Still Speeding – Beady Eye – A surprisingly competent, old time rock album from the Oasis sound alikes. A coupla dogs but still, Liam and co manage to maintain a fast paced, clear eyed, hard rock. Grade: B+
The King Of Limbs – Radiohead – As a self confessed Radiohead hater, I still must admit this is the mod like Radiohead, Radiohead could possibly sound like. It sounds good, exactly what you think it does, but the songs are a little lax and the melodies non-existent. Except for on “Little By Little” -where they exist. Grade: B+
Late Nights And Early Mornings – Marsha Ambrosius – One part Prince, one part D’Angelo, r&b and soul with a dash of hip hop production values. And then there is “With You”, the sorta slow burn neither Prince nor D’Angelo are capable of anymore. Grade: A
Long Player Late Bloomer – Ron Sexsmith – The album Marshall Crenshaw won’t provide us with. A glorious, melodic, catchy, smart pop-rock album. Grade: A-
Yuck – Yuck – Fuzzy, wuzzy, quasi-psychedelic, cool rock, youthful, beautiful. It has all the energy, originality, and inspiration of a first album by a band ready to prove it.Yep, they make it through the wall. Grade: A
The People’s Key – Bright Eyes – Heavy love comes? His wedding album. Grade: A-
Talk About Men – Men – Ambisexual dance manifesto featuring Le Tigre. Grade B+
