I got this story off AXS.com but it is well worth sharing. “Make Room” is a non-profit organization that helps poor people pay their rent and with the current homeless problem in New York, it is even more worthwhile if anything. If the City or State really wanted to help the homeless, they’d give money directly to landlords to supplement rent for poor families. Just because you don’t see children on the street doesn’t mean there aren’t children on the street, they are just hidden from view.
According to Billboard, “Make Room is the name of a campaign that, according to their official website, “partners with and convenes corporations, policymakers, nonprofit organizations and advocates to raise awareness in support of the 11 million families struggling to make rent.” As part of this mission, the campaign has organized a concert series that sees musicians and artists perform in the living room of families that are struggling to make rent, in the process also setting up donation pages on CrowdRise to raise funds for families. Make Room has had artists like Carly Rae Jepsen and Timothy Bloom perform in living rooms in the past, and for their newest concert, Make Room obtained the services of Miguel.”
Below you will see film of Miguel in Detroit performing in the home of of Devona Rollins. “The 46-year-old single mom lives with her 11-year-daughter and her niece and nephew. After battling addiction and mental health problems, Rollins moved just outside of Detroit and opened her own business. Despite those gains, Rollins still spends half her income on rent, with little left over to cover other expenses.”
Miguel who had a good summer with a terrific album Wildheart, to his credit, performed “Adorn”, “What’s Normal Anyway?” and “Coffee” which we’ve posted below.
