Why Are Neil Young’s Albums On ITunes But Not Apple Play?

“Streaming has ended for me. I hope this is ok for my fans.

It’s not because of the money, although my share (like all the other artists) was dramatically reduced by bad deals made without my consent.

It’s about sound quality. I don’t need my music to be devalued by the worst quality in the history of broadcasting or any other form of distribution. I don’t feel right allowing this to be sold to my fans. It’s bad for my music.

For me, It’s about making and distributing music people can really hear and feel. I stand for that.

When the quality is back, I’ll give it another look. Never say never.

Neil Young”

That was Neil Young last week.

It is rare for somebody to be caught in such a barefaced lie but man, it sure looks like Neil Young  is caught lying on this and I hope he decides it is worth explaining what is going on in his head. Yes, except for a handful if albums, Neil Young took down his albums from streaming last week, and this is absolutely his right and I am not disagreeing with it. But what I will say is this: since Apple Play and Itunes, to the best of my knowledge, use the same audio files, how is his music still available on Itunes? There seems to me to be only possibilities:

1 – Itunes uses better audio files than Apple Play -that seems like a lot of work for no reward whatsoever.

2 – Neil Young is lying.

If he is lying, well, kinda makes you wonder about his attacks on Starbucks, doesn’t it?
