First the story taken off Gigwise:
“Grizzly Bear’s Edward Droste has described Taylor Swift as “terribly calculated and mean” after meeting her at an event, adding, “She frightens me genuinely.”
Earlier in the year, Droste sent and then deleted a series of tweets which he has since confirmed were about Swift, who frequently sings the praises of her close circle of celebrity friends, and regularly sends gift packages to fans.
He wrote, “Met a celebrity I always speculated was terribly calculated and mean, and they exceeded all my expectations of rudeness and arrogance. HATE,” before adding, “If you know please don’t @ the person, they see all and have the capacity and desire to destroy , seriously , please just know and lol[…] This is an eternal blind item, bc I’m too petrified of their insane power. No need to speculate, just HAD to voice my disgust.”
It seems he’s since had a change of heart though, tweeting a page from a gossip magazine that accused Swift of giving her friends a list of dos and don’ts prior to joining her on stage.”
I love Grizzly Bear, I think he is an excellent musician and while we just got a coupla soundtrack album tracks, it has been years since the excellent Shields album (three years actually) and we are due to hear more from him and soon. And I believe him.
But this speaks to what I was writing about Taylor Swift having a lousy 2015: it is inevitable and a side affect of money and power, you become corrupted, you can’t help it but you do and there is absolutely no one to show you how to stop the process because anybody would be automatically out of the inner circle.
Taylor was such a sweetheart, she was really the Derek Jeter of pop music but pop music used his powers intelligently and sparingly and Taylor doesn’t seem to be doing so.
