I wrote this the day after the concert but have kept on not posting. It is not a very good review but CBOF were fabulous. I will, however, hold tight to the Runaways comparison!
Care Bears On Fire were not preaching to the converted at Mercury Lounge last Thursday, We were here to see Titus Andronicus. CBOF excellent set was a testament to the ability to be teenage girls and still be a honest to god great rock band.
Remind you of anyone?
If not the cover of the Runaways “Saturday Night Special” might trigger your memory!!
But no no Cherry Curieing favor here, Care Bears On Fire were a fast loud rules from the Ramones school of thought,,, “Superteen” “What I Could Be”, shout out to Kathleen Hanna, the patron saint of tonight for some reason,
The vocals maybe a touch too pitchy, the drummer a bit too chatty, and having said that you have every single complaint I can think of… song after song at the speed of the Queers, they nail em and quit em.
They end with “ATM”.
I’ve been waiting to see Care Bears On Fire since I digged “ATM” on their last album, but couldn’t quite get the timing right. They ended the set with the great song. In 5 years they will be as good as Sleater Kinney.
