The first time I saw Ed Sheeran live on stage was at Mercury Lounge, the 250 capacity SRO club on West Houston, the net time I saw him was at Prudential Center, such is life when Taylor Swift takes an interest in your career. Ed’s second album, X, has been on the UK Top 10 Album charts in the UK since last June, and did darn well Stateside, helped by “Thinking About You”.
So, this igg at Forest Hills Stadium (AKA 10pm curfew hangout) should be pretty much an instantaneous sell out. I got a ticket for the Thursday night gig and the question I have now is WILL ED GET A BAND??? He has always performed solo, but his choice appears to be either a live band or backing tapes. He just can’t replicate the sound without it.
I’ve always liked Ed, he is like a miracle of science, a guy who quite literally did it his way and yet managed to get away with singer songwriter angst and pop moves I’ve never seen him perform poorly. So consider this an absolute must see.
