The Complete Uselessness Of The Paul McCartney Valentine’s Day Gig (Plus Setlist)

maccav

I live in Astoria, maybe 45 minutes from Irving Plaza so if I had heard about the McCartney gig at Irving Plaza when it was announced I still wouldn’t have made it. The irving Plaza gig was so specialized unless you lived round the corner you plain weren’t going. I didn’t go.

The gig was announced on Paul’s website around tenish but even if I had been aware of it I would never have gotten to the city in time to get in line:

This took everybody by surprise, well not everybody

From the examiner.com by Steve Marinucci:

Paul McCartney may be playing a small-hall (and possibly private) show Feb. 14 in New York City likely connected with this weekend’s three-hour “SNL 40” special on NBC, Beatles Examiner has learned, though a Paul McCartney spokesman said Feb. 12 the show is unconfirmed. The venue also said the show is not confirmed, though it said something might be announced on Saturday.

According to the report, he’ll be playing at the intimate venue the Irving Plaza, located at 17 Irving Plaza in New York City. The 150-year-old building, which has room for only 1,025 fans in general admission, has been hosting rock shows since 1978 and has staged concerts by Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Pearl Jam, the Ramones and the Dave Matthews Band, among many others.

The calendar for the venue shows no show listed for Saturday, though the building has been used for private events in the past by Live Nation. There’s been no announcement of the show yet by McCartney or the venue.

The show is almost certainly connected with his appearance on “SNL 40,” the network’s tribute to the 40th anniversary of “Saturday Night Live.” That show airs on NBC on Sunday from 8 to 11 p.m. ET live on the East Coast and on three-hour delay on the West Coast. A one-hour red-carpet special hosted by Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Carson Daly and Al Roker will precede it from 7 to 8 p.m. ET/PT.

The three-hour live special will feature past and present cast members, as well as special and musical guests from the show’s five-decade run. The red carpet special will feature interviews of past hosts, past and current cast members and some of the musical acts who have played on the show.
