I’d been having my doubts about Michael Buble, I wouldn’t mind seeing him and the place was right (MSG -two blocks from my job) and the setlist looked good… but over a hundred bucks for a nosebleed? I couldn’t do it. Fleetwood Mac, yes, fine, Buble? Not so fast, buster.
So the other day I went on Stubhub and found the same nosebleed for $74 and nearly bought them but then noticed a section 120 -going for $175 on Ticketmaster (I mean FACE… not Ticketnow) for $100 and snapped it up.
Then I was on Facebook and Susan Whitall had posted a review by one of her fellow scribes at Detroit News of Motley Cru’s farewell (no, really, they’ve signed a contract and everything) farewell tour and it sounded hilarious. Adam Graham wrote “The show stopped, again, and Mars complained into his microphone about his in-ear monitors. That marked three derailments in less than an hour, and fans showed their disapproval by loudly booing the band. It takes a lot to make a crowd boo — especially an opening night crowd on a high-profile tour — but the Crue was dealing with more than technical difficulties. They looked sloppy and unrehearsed, and weren’t in anything resembling tour shape.”
Oooh, so kinda like the Mets and the Yankees? Cool, you can read all about the train wreck here but it was enough to whet my appetite for the October 28th gig at MSG but again I couldn’t justify paying $75 for a nosebleed. Off to Stubhub again and whomp there it is: $42 for the same seat plus I had just received a $10 “Friends” discount for $32. That I could offered.
Stubhub for sold out gigs we know, but it is also a place where people unload tickets they don’t want or speculators go to dump the excess tickets in their world. Helen Bach is such an expert she will wait till the last minute and pick em up as the prices topple, I got burnt on Fiona Apple that way once so tend not to have the stomach for it but this is really the open market at its best.
