Nick Lowe is a genius.
Say what you will if you disagree you’re an idiot. A brilliant writer and a talented performer and I have never seen him live.
I bet alot of writers and readers can rattle off his shirt size but I cant.
But when you hear a song like “Hope For Us All”, its hard to dispute the magical power of Lowe.
Self depreciating with class and a dash of wink and nod.
Beautifully arranged and one of the most powerfully romantic statements I have heard in forever.
There aren’t many songs that will stop me dead in my tracks and well me up.
I’m sappy but I’m a bit jaded.
This kicked my ass.
I pulled the lyrics cuz I’m never quite sure what I hear.
For those of you who don’t know I have dyslexia and I’m not ashamed of it at all but it does make me stop and retrace things at times.
In this scenario I’m thrilled because it made me stop and listen and read and re read until I was so enveloped that I felt my heart would burst.
So close to Valentines Day this song is the ultimate in true love.
“I must admit there were times
When all I ever did was climb the walls
But if even I can find someone
There’s hope for us all”
When all I ever did was climb the walls
But if even I can find someone
There’s hope for us all”
So lets say someone sent you that song, youd drop to the floor.
And dont go stealing it now cuz then you have no creativity and if we writers ever find out you snagged this for your sweetheart we will narc you out.
Maybe I’ll make you a playlist of good Valentines Day songs.
But not this one, this one is mine
Check it out:
