We’ve been doing this long enough for Drive-By Truckers absence to speak volumes for our indifference towards the band. There are those who rate Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley sky high, maybe higher, manye the best alt-country rockers of em all. But I dunno. I have never had much of a taste for Southern boogie and even if I did, DBT aren’t so terrific at it. When I do like (or even love) the band, they are playing Stonesy hard rockers with great melodies and lively three guitar attacks, when I don’t like em they are playing boogie.
The album to keep to is Decoration Day, with not only Patterson’s masterpiece “Hell No, I Ain’t Happy” but also Jason Isbell’s “Outfit” and Cooley’s “Already Gone” re-think, the superb “Marry Me”.
But maybe I am unfair to Drive-By Truckers because unlike former mother trucker Jason who I’ve caught a couple of times, I’ve yet to see the band and if ever a band sounded as though it deserved to be seen on stage, these Southern bad boys sure do. So On my weeks vacation, March 17th, I added them to the list of things to do.
It now goes
March 15th – March 17th – Trip to Orlando.
March 18th – Rosanne Cash
March 19th – Mark Mucaley
March 20th – Drive By Truckers
March 21st – The Allman Brothers.
The Drive By Truckers is at Terminal 5 and I am none to please about that but I can imagine them being very very good… I can imagine them being as good as Isbell.
