It is not often that I can say time has been kind to a rocker.
As a matter of fact I cant recall the last time I did.
But I certainly can regarding The Pet Shop Boys.
Perhaps its because they’ve remained in touch with music and rather than become a parody or a retro act, have evolved into something more.
The whole infancy of New Wave/New Romantic brought us these guys. Danceable fun for the art school set.
But what was happening below the pop was a deep appreciation of ‘serious music’
And so begins their first ballet a collaboration with choreographer Javier De Frutos and Britain’s leading dance theatre, Sadler’s Wells. To create a ballet based on a story by Hans Christian Anderson.
Titled “The Most Incredible Thing” the show will open March 17th in London.
“This is a very exciting project to be part of” said the Pet Shop Boys. “In the past we have written dance music so to write music for a ballet seems like a logical development. Also we have always been fascinated by giving our music a theatrical context.”
Best song from back in the day…
