At Pianos last night, Dreamers Of The Ghetto visited us from Bloomington, Illinois, and while they didn’t bring many new friends everybody who saw them will remember them and spread the word.
A four piece band , their main influence is crystal ships clear: lead by the charismatic, shirtless Luke Jones, he takes center stage and keeps it, only stopping to kiss keyboardist, the hottish Lauren Jones. They have a clear Doors influence and that’s fine by me. Sexy without being self righteous, they worked what there was of an audience with a concentrated smartness. I felt manipulated in the best way imaginable.
Luke moved between spanking hard riffs on “Regulator” and the excellent jammed out “Way Out”, to wowing the crowd with flat out great vocals. Bass player Jonathan looked like Riff Raff (obscure reference!) and had plenty of cool riffs. And the entire band had obvious chemistry -though, perhaps less kissing the chick, Luke: if you wanna be a sex symbol, be available!!
This is Dreamers Of The Ghetto’s first trip to nyc… they are welcome back any time!
