Apparently somewhere in Scotland a shepherd plays songs on his smallpipe: “while it is normally the musician who takes prominence, here the Instrument is put to the forefront and it stacks up well, a mouthblown Smallpipe in UPPER D it has a lovely tone as this recording demonstrates . even if you have no Intention of taking up the Smallpipes this still makes for a good 50 minutes entertainment”
And, er, “Many Happy Returns” -the ABC classic is a fave.
Can you blame dem sheep, it sure made us act like sheep in 1982. A blues chord progresssion repeated while Fry intones in his dry yet Ferryish voice the story of a bad romance repeated itself. It is all struck chords as expresses and explains.
Some of the words though? You’d kill to have written: “Like the world spinning round on its axis, I know democracy but I know what’s fascist” is a world beater, and better… “I know what’s good but I know what trash is”.
Can’t recommend the song strongly enough, ask them sheep in the hills of Scotland, they’ll bleet you.
