MTV Flesh, It Aint Skins: Under Durress -By Helen Bach

Look, I didnt want to do it.  I had no intention of giving MTV’s version of BBC mega win Skins the time of day but I got the assignment so well,  I got a job.
Skins on BBC is by far one of the finest teen dramas ever done.
Quality acting real situations amazing music and a 2 year cast.
 Thats it.
Then the new crew starts.
Perfect.
I have sung this shows praise for so long Im like a street preacher.
Tired of the crap on your box? Watch Skins.  For Gods sake I can be annoying.
So years later I see MTV wants a piece of my show.
  Americanzied.
WTF.
There are some things that just should be left pure.
Skins is a great example.  You simply cannot carry the realism over.  Especially on MTV.
So I agree and heres what happened.
First off Season 1 of Skins had Tony helping Sid lose his virginity
MTVs ‘Flesh’ as I will now call it cuz its nothing but a cheap bootleg (sorta like fake perfumes) Tony is going to help Stanley.  Cuz apparently Stanly is more American?
Why is Jahl called Daisy?
 Im gonna puke.
What I cant understand is why on Earth they would nearly verbatum copy the show.  But if you havent seen the British version, I suppose its amusing.  To me its like watching a high school revival of a great show.  Its labored.  Its weird.
I hate it.
I think there are enough idiot teenagers willing to accept this as ‘cool’ to make it work.
Perhaps this is what the fans of the original Office felt?
This Tony isnt cute.  Nips has no appeal
Anwar looks ridiculous, Jahl is Daisy and one of my all time favorites Sid is a Stanley.
I think I could respect this more if they at least tried to make it slightly different.
Take the concept and tweak it.
This is community theater.
Why bother when you can see the real thing on dvd?
Look here- Effie, Tonys sister comes home from a wild night.
In the series Skins she’s doing the walk of shame.
In MTV’s ‘Flesh’, she looks like shes just been raped.
Cheap imitation.
pass.
