Blockhead To Williamsburg -By Woody Fuller

Why to Williamsburg? bc BK is cool as shit right now! The bee’s knees, the cats pajamas.. As is Blockhead, or Tony Simon, depending on if you are producing the show or attending the show.

Blockhead is la creme de la creme of its scene; uber down-temp hip/hop, border line trip/hop, its very chill, very groovy. He started his career by working with Aesop Rock, (whom I fell in love with about 6 years ago. Those beat are soo siick. ), producing his last 8 CDs, dating back to 1999, and is currently on the Ninja Tune record label along with Bonobo, Eskmo..ect.

A very unique genre to say the least, a hit or miss with many fans; however I can’t get enough of it. I texted friend and music lover Henry Soza as soon I got wind of this show coming to Williamsburg, I received an almost instant, “I love Blockhead brother. ‘Which one of you drank my Arnold Palmer’ is my sh!t,” looks as if Mr. Soza feels the same way, and will hopefully be joining me for this spectacle in BKNY.

Simon, does a great job of balancing between straight up instrumentals and incorporating some dope lyrics over his doper, jamming beats. If you like hip/hop check out. If you like trip/hop, ( Thievery Corp. type ish) check out. If you like discovering new music, check out.. because Blockhead is coming to town!!

Friday, January, 28th at The Music Hall of Williamsburg, ( one of the great Bowery Presents venues)  See you there.
