The concert was apparently oversold, some punks were trying to get inside and bouncers were trying to prevent them, then one of the bouncers got a broken nose, and this trigged a scuffle between punks and bouncers with rocks and bottles…. rocks? on Sunset boulevard? Where did they find them?
The West Hollywood police and than coming from different agencies, arrived after responding to a call from the Key club, they shut down Sunset blvd for two hours, and the punk rock insurrection continued, as the officers emptied the area clubs and used rubber bullets and pepper balls.
But the Whiskey’s manager (a club on Sunset) had this to say:
‘It wasn’t really a riot until the police showed up.’
And a witness said:
‘Police overreact to minor conflict outside club. Shutdown the show before YB can take the stage. Then fire rubber bullets into crowd, unload industrial fire extinguisher filled with mace. Beat up the wrong kids. In their defense some idiot kids throw bottles at the cops that broke at their feet which was stupid of them.’
Overall the reports are different depending on who is talking, the media made the fans looked really bad, aggressive and attacking the police.
I was not there, but it looked like a real riot.
