I Am The Champion – B.o.B – And so with this diabolical shout along B.o.B. emerges as one of the single most annoying pop artists of the year.
I Just Had Sex (feat Akon) – The Lonely Island – Look at it this way, if we have to listen to Akon, better with Andy Samberg than with dead Michael. But why do we have to listen to Akon?
Shell Game – Bright Eyes – Didja read Alyson’s analysis? Fascinating, and helped me like it more. Plus, if I am still not willing to decide, it must have something going for it.
This Is Country Music – Brad Paisley – Have you ever had a friend whose family’s have all these pathetic traditions and go on and on about family characteristics and what it means to be born into it. It all implies that being member of this extended group is IN ITSELF self worth. That’s what this does for county. So it is bad art lyrically, mentally if you will, but it sounds absolutely terrific. TRACK OF THE WEEK
No Boys Allowed – Keri Hilson – Dance pop as written, plus a Rock Ross rap. What’s not to like?
Fall For Your Type – Jamie Foxx – Jamie told Letterman he felt like a little girl meeting Prince for the first time. But that’s no reason to sing like one.
Ghetto – Ghostface Killah – This is a breathtaking Gospel chorus, surrounding the Wu’s rapping -spitting out rhymes about “How do you raise your kids in the ghetto? Feed one child and starve the other”.
Have I The Right – Vampire Weekend – This is not VW’s worse recording ever, that would be elsewhere here. This is a fair to middling cover of the Honeycombs only hit from 1964, plus cool jazz break.
