REM Eddie Vedder Collab Nothing Special -by Alyson Camus

As Iman mentioned it a few days ago, you can get for free ‘Discoverer’, the first of 12 tracks of R.E.M.’s upcoming album, ‘Collapse Into Now’, which is set to be released on March 8th.

But the album will also feature several collaborations with Eddie Vedder, Patti Smith, Peaches, and Joel Gibb (The Hidden Cameras), and if you pre-order it via iTunes, you will receive an instant download of ‘It Happened Today’ featuring Eddie Vedder.

But you can also stream it for free here:http://ozonlaag.tumblr.com/post/2388392119/it-happened-today-r-e-m-collapse-into-now

The song will not surprise anybody, it’s very typical of what I remember from R.E.M., more folky than the previous free release, arena-type ‘Discovered’, which was reminding me a little too much about U2, with its space-filling-ringing guitars.

This time, it is more about quiet acoustic guitars and plenty of backing wordless vocals from Mike Mills and Eddie Vedder, nothing exceptional. The harmonies are nice, sure, but that’s a lot of aaahs! and ooohs!
