The digital release of the soundtrack is scheduled for January 25th and the physical release, if people are still interested to buy CDs, will drop in February.
The movie DVD, also scheduled for February (in France), will come with a bonus preview CD featuring Sonic Youth’s music.
Fabrice Gobert said he was dreaming that Sonic Youth, the iconic band of the 90’s, would make the music for his movie, and in 2010 he managed to meet with them without believing they would accept. However, a few scenes of the movie were enough to convince the band to record an original soundtrack for the movie.
They worked in the studio while watching film rushes which needed music, and following Fabrice’s indications about the tonality and the feeling he wanted to pass through each scene.
Many critics are comparing the film, which was presented at the Cannes film festival, to ‘Elephant’ by Gus Van Sant, a filmmaker that Gobert cites as his sources of inspiration along with Sofia Coppola, André Techiné, Olivier Assayas, and Claire Denis.
