He had to announce something of this sort, to come up with some kind of explanation to justify the long hiatus he had put his recording career on… nothing since 2006??
Even Michael Jackson, who is dead, has released an album before him.
The next King of pop? Timberlake will probably not be one, but he got another idea in mind after his supporting role in ‘Alpha dog’, then a voice in the third installation of Shrek, as well as a few cameos in diverse films.
He declared to the LATimes:
‘I faced the same feelings when I went solo, I had the same obstacles in music. I still do. But I feel like I should pose the question to everyone else: If you had this opportunity, what would you do with it?… Entertaining is in my blood, I make no bones about the fact that I have always wanted to work in the forum of film. I take this seriously. I’ll be 30 in January, and I’m saying to myself, ‘If I’m going to do this, I need to do it now.’’
Fans were not happy when he left the boy band N’ Sync in 2002, and will probably not be happy by his decision again, but to Timberlake’s advantage, he was against a few other big names for the part of Sean Parker in the Social Network (Shia LaBoeuf, Michael Cera) and he nevertheless got the role.
He has finished several other films (‘Friends with benefits’, ‘Bad Teacher’), is also the voice for a character in ‘Yogi Bear’, and is currently working on the science-fiction-action-hero ‘Now’.
But he has not completely given up on music as his ambitions seem quite high, and a sort of combination à la David Bowie:
‘I want to conceptualize something a little bit more, and it’s probably because of the experience I’m having working with directors and screenwriters and getting to play cool characters. If that means I come up with, like, my version of ‘Ziggy Stardust,’ so be it. Who knows? What I’ve learned from acting in movies, I want to apply to music and see what happens.’
So after Michael Jackson, he wants to be Bowie?
