Jack White: The Rick Rubin ForFemale Country Legends Resurrecting Their Careers Does It Again -by Alyson Camus

How does Jack White do it? How does he convince country rock legends to work with him? After the Loretta Lynn album, for which they got two Grammy Awards, he has now done an album with country legend Wanda Jackson! Yeah, why not pursuing a winning formula…
Wanda Jackson told, in an interview, how she met Jack:

‘This young man, amazing, very talented, but younger than my son, told me that he wanted to work with me. I had to find out exactly who he was to start with, although I had heard of him. I started listening to some of his albums and the work he’s done with others and I could hear straight away that he was very talented.’

And when she was asked if she was ready to be compared to Loretta Lynn, she said:
‘Yes, I’m well aware that it’s likely people will say that. I think that’s okay, I liked the Loretta Lynn album. I wanted to listen to it because it was Loretta, for starters, but also I listened to it again when I had made the Jack White connection. I think what we’ve done is different – but Loretta and Jack made a great album, so that’s okay’.

The Rockabilly queen dated Elvis Presley, was successful in the 50’s, and, remarkably, is still working and playing shows. Her upcoming album, entitled ‘The Party Ain’t Over’, is produced by White, and will be released January 25th on Third Man/Nonesuch Records; it will feature covers of songs by Amy Winehouse (‘You Know I’m No Good’), and Bob Dylan, as well as contributions from Jack Lawrence (The Dead Weather/Raconteurs), Carl Broemel (My Morning Jacket), Patrick Keeler (Raconteurs), Ashley Monroe, Jackson Smith and Karen Elson.

Wanda & Jack have also announced upcoming shows on January 21th at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg and on January 23rd at the El Rey theater in LA.

And wow, the tickets go on sale this week, tomorrow to be exact, for Third man Records’ Vault subscribers at 11 a.m. ET and on Thursday for the public at 11 a.m. ET.
