Joyless Peter Hook Turned Down By Interpol -by Alyson Camus

After his concerts on the East Coast (he was in New York last week and Iman was there), Joy Division’s Peter Hook has a show today in Los Angeles at the Music Box.
He was interviewed by the LAWeekly and this is what he said when asked about Interpol, who has always sounded very Joy Division from the beginning:

‘I don’t mind it. Again, it has to be taken as a compliment. When Carlos left Interpol, they did an Internet application form to be a bass player. I applied and didn’t get picked [laughs]. I applied as Peter Hook, and they turned me down.’

You have to wonder whether the band knew he was really Peter Hook. Probably not! And if they had known it, how could they have hired him as Joy Division’s name was already in everyone’s review of ‘Turn On the Bright Lights ?
