New Music Week Of December 6th, 2010: Same game -by Iman Lababedi

A Little Respect (HMI Redux) – Erasure – A tweaky, tinkly, but unevasive pop move so old fashioned it would float backwards if the melody wasn’t so well anchored. TRACK OF THE WEEK.

The Game has Changed – Daft Punk – The thing is this is a seminal  dance band, so we want it to function first and foremost as the gateway to the future sound (apparently there won’t be much synth on it) but it doesn’t, instead it does its job, which is as an emotional short hand to an action flick.

A City In Florida – Deadmau5 – It’s not that all found dance sounds the same, it is that this is so endemic of modern dance as to be a blueprint.

Endlessly – Duffy – An endless lousy soul ballad but one of the most annoying voices on the planet. This is the second, and also the last, dog I buy off her new album.

Kiss The For Me – Diane Birch – A medium cool soul rocker.

Wadya Want from me – Adam Lambert – Acoustic. Not such a good idea because you can actually here the song… and the song sucks.

Sacrifice – Silverstein – Old time metalcore and pretty fucking great for what it is. Two voices, one of whom can scream…

Warlords – Snowgoons – The German Dj’s use those dark orchestrated samples to some effect.

That’s All She Wrote (feat Eminem) – T.I. – Pretty lousy chorus, both raps are fair enough.
