John Lennon Was Murdered 30 Years Ago -by Alyson Camus

John Lennon died 30 years ago today, killed by a deranged fan, on a cold December night.

If Yoko Ono will perform at a charity concert ‘Dream Power John Lennon Super Live’, in Nippon Budokan, Japan, I am sure a lot of people all over the world will also pay homage, especially since 30 is some kind of landmark number.

And what about California?

First, Pacific Edge Gallery in Laguna Beach is celebrating a special side of Lennon by presenting an exhibit ‘Remembering John: A tribute to the Art of John Lennon’, a 5-day affair featuring 35 drawings of the musician, including the premiere of 4 new lithographs, selected and hand-signed by Yoko Ono. Lennon created hundreds of them, many self-portraits, or portraits of his wife Yoko Ono and son Sean, but this exhibit will feature an original drawing from his trip to Japan in 1977, as well as hand written lyrics.
It is free to the public, the opening is next Wednesday, and the works are for sale.

Secondly, KFRC, a San Francisco top-40 music station did the last John Lennon interview. Designed to promote the launch of ‘Double Fantasy’, the interview did occur in New York, on December 8 1980 around 12:30 pm, a few hours before his death.
After hearing the terrible news, the interview was edited into a 3-hour program in homage to Lennon. This interview will be air again today on ReelRadio.com, although you need a subscription to listen to it:

Lastly, New York may have Central Park’s Strawberry Field, but LA has John Lennon’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, close to the Capitol Records tower. There will be a candlelight vigil by the star today at 6 pm in his honor, sponsored by the Alliance for Survival peace group.

Everyone is invited to bring candles and flowers; they have announced a special performance by the band ‘The Three of Us’ who will sing songs by the Beatles and Lennon, and a on-site creation of a large John Lennon mural called ‘Facing the Music’ by artist Gregory Adamson.
