I’ve seen Katy Perry twice before. Once at Jingle Bell where she didn’t seem quite capable of putting it together in a short set, the way both Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift did, and the next time at MSG for her Teenage Dream gig where she was fabulous. A sort of warped out saucy candy pink dream world where Katy takes a trip down the yellow brick road to love and happiness.

The singing wasn’t much, a lot of everything was canned, but the spirit was willing and I enjoyed the performance. But I didn’t enjoy Prism and I have my doubts about this year’s model, still I have a good feeling about this concert, it will continue on from Teenage but the dream is over and Katy has discovered true love can’t compete with girl power.

So, this moves right away from the joy of the last show but if she replaces it with a sad story of love denial (though she does have a new boyfriend in John Mayer) it will suck but she is too much the pro to manage that. While her only real competition Lady Gaga explodes in angst and betrayal on the business side, Perry does it on the personal side, and while neither album has proven itself a slam dunk in the pop charts (which is precisely what they needed) certainly Katy should sell out this tour.

I am going to see her on Wednesday July 9th, 2014 at MSG. cost (including charges): $82.00 for a nosebleed (I would say Cheap Seat but…) . By the way I went back to Prism and it might not be as dreadful as I though… I would say a B- not a C. One more thing… why do we get Capital Cities instead of Icona Pop??? That really sucks.
