Gary Wilson’s “Secret Girl”: What I Am Listening To Write This Minute -by Iman Lababedi

When it comes to writing about music, nothing much intimidates me. Except, soul brother Gary Wilson does. The reason is I can hear it is soul, pre soul, but it is so eccentric it leaves you hopping on one leg.

On “Secret Girl” Gary uses a jazzy ballad and a Princely funk groove but everything sounds off by an octave. The vocals are neither falsetto nor bass, and they certainly aren’t what you’d expect them to be. The lyric isn’t too happy at all “I can’t believe this thing we’ve set in moption, I’ve got a secret girlfriend and I feel terrible”. Eek

Yeah, this is wonderful, makes you think of a “Pictures Of Lilly” or something… Creepy, different, brilliant. This guy is a genius.
