Monday Morning Rock: Thank You Loudon -by Iman Lababedi

1. Fakin’ It – Simon And Garfunkel – Just in case you wondered if Bookends was better than Bridge, this’ll remind you it wasn’t.

2. F.O.D. – Green Day – Minor Moment off a major album, once the band hits sounds bit like early Who.

3. Jaykub – Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse – Better than Broken Bells but awful fussy for something so atmospheric.

4. So What – Pink – The rock riff is awesome and the drum pattern -I think I underestimated her.

5. If I Had To Do It All Over Again, I’d Do It All Over You – Paul Revere And The Raiders – At first I thought oooh dirty, and then I listened to a rooty tooty 60s vaudeville rocker, and said nah, then I remembered Dylan wrote it and figured ooooh dirty.

6. Voulez Vous – Abba – Buiilds it its desire from quarter note to quarter note.

7. The Boys Of Summer – DJ Sammy – Sure it’s old fashioned. The chick singer? Sings like she doesn’t speak English. But the pulsing rhythm makes it do what it is meant.

7. Dick In A Box (feat Justin Timberlake) – The Lonely Island – Funny… not very funny. Just haha funny.

8. I’m So Free – Lou Reed – This song is a hoot and a holler. The entire song has a joyous lift with none of the deadly irony of “Vicious” and no, it isn’t really camp (neither is the album) it’s gay.

9. Raspberry Fields – Cannibal Ox – A psychedelic, experimental wreck scene.

10. Who Am I To Say – Justin Townes Earle – A disappointment but not deadly ballad.

11. Dime A Dozen Guy – Marshall Crenshaw – Live version includes a xylophone.

12. Kiss The Children – Gram Parsons _ Just in case you forgot he was more than the punchline to a Keith richards tall tale.

13. Hey Ya – Booker T – Always a great riff made golden by Booker’s keybs.

14. A Song To Pass The Time – Bright Eyes – Conor had an aqful quiet 2010. 3 songs -2 were pretty good. This oldie reminds us what he can’t do any more. He can’t do innocence corrupted.

15. Talking New Bob Dylan – Loudon Wainwright – Perfect, hysterically funny, pretty fucking awesome song.

16. Pop 4 Roc – Jay-Z – This was a disappointment? This? DISAPPOINT????? Get the fuck outta here

17. Let It Be – The Beatles – God how I hate this song. This is the “Naked” version. Shame they don’t have a silent version.

18. Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole – Martha Wainwright – Written for a new Bob Dylan.

19. Sound Of Pulling Heaven Down – Blue October – The drums are on medication, the imagery is liquid, and the verse works as a hook. It’s all pull and tongue.

20. Luna Liena – Elvis Crespo – Of all the things I love about Merengue, I love the horns the most.
