Funny how people can have a completely different take on the same event. Many newspapers, blogs and magazines have reported that, when launching their tour in Auckland on November 25th, U2 paid tribute to the 29 New Zealand miners who lost their lives in the Pike River Mine disaster. Bono showed some compassion, saying he knew the country was struggling to cope with the tragedy and the names of the dead mine workers were shown across a large screen while the band was performing two songs.

‘People deal with grief in all sorts of ways – anger, silence, sorrow – but in Ireland we sing. So let us sing for you tonight.’ He said before singing.

So what’s wrong with that? Nothing so far, and many blogs have praised U2’s performance and emotional, moving tribute.

But wait a minute, there is another side to the story, as some other sites have pointed out,… could it be the choice of one of the songs? U2 chose to sing ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’, and some took it as some kind of a bad joke, or at least a very poor choice.
You have to admit it was quite a weird choice! Didn’t Bono make the connection? Talk about taking a song literally!

According to the Daily Star, some people in the audience at the concert were left confused…
