December Is For Concert Goers

After an incredibly quiet concert going November because
1. I’m broke
and
2. I couldn’t get on any press lists.
I ended up going to THREE concerts in November and I might choose to go to Levon Helm today and I might not. I saw him last year and thought he was a bit of a drag.
But I am already doubled up for December. Here is my dance card…
December 1st – Girlie Action Christmas Party – A private gig starring the hot and heavy r&b fellow traveller Gordon Voidwell. And here, by the way, and it deserves its own post, is Gordon on Huffington Post with the quote of the year: “First off, I should admit I was pretty much born grown up. Not like Benjamin Button per se — but like, I saw very “real” things at a very young age. Father in handcuffs. Mother with bruises. Best friends killed. Then I turned 2 and realized “Eureka! Most of my thoughts on life are fully developed!”
December 3rd – Peter Hook , Joy Division’s bassist, performs Unknown Pleasures. Ladies and gentlemen, we are through the looking glass.
December 6th – Rufus Wainwright – Except for singing with his sister and parents a coupla times, I have never seen Wainwright live, it took me years to love his voice, so I am well beyond excited
for this Carnegie Hall gig. And I know I’m in the minority but I loved Rufus’s last album: not the live album, the sad one.
December 10th – Jingle Ball – Yeah, I’ve already seen Justin so whatever to him. BUT KATY PERRY!!!!
December 13th – Liz Phair. I haven’t seen her since the Exile tour and while I won’t claim to love her new album, I sure don’t hate it. It may be a failed attempt to marry hip hop, Bollywood and Phair’s own speaksongy voice, it is still AN ATTEMPT.
December, 14 – Usher – OMG! Usher. Haven’t seen Usher since he opened for Mary J. at the Theatre at MSG in the 90s. I CAN NOT WAIT.
December, 17th – Prince – Since, I dunno, 1980, I have seen Prince many, many, many times. And NEVER NOT ONCE, has he come within a million miles of sucking.
