The Decemberist: You Can Listen But You Better Not Look -by Helen Bach

I consider myself a ‘major’ Decemberists fan.
Such beautiful and interesting music almost an intellectual feel.  I’ve raved about them so very much and with good reason.

Despite a bit of concern over what direction their new album will take them my words have been of praise if not nearly bowing to their brilliance.

The word of the upcoming tour in support of “The King Is Dead”, actually made the pulse race.  Finally I would get to see live the music that has moved me as no other modern band has.

Before hearing of the tour I had joked that the venue would need seats, this is a story telling band.  How could you stand and sway to “Hazards of Love”?

But the tour, announced this week, locally is at Bostons House of Blues, one of my most favorite venues.  I’d stand.

I screamed a bit and cursed even more when I missed the presale before it sold out.
So last night I was at the Alesana show and missed them on Conan.  Hello Youtube.

There you have it.  Yup Gillian Welch records beautifully by the way.

Yup.. there they are my heroes The Decemberists.

Those brilliant thinker and writers with music that gives me chills and paints the most vivid images in my mind.
Boring, bland thrift shop, dumpy performers.
This my friends is something that should be mentioned.  I adore The Decemberists.  I would say they were in the top 5 of my favorite band of all time.  I cannot wait for the new cd CANT WAIT so excited.
Yet I never ever ever want to to see them live.
There is nothing to watch.
I can listen to them and see visions of such glorious things with just their words and sound.
I do not want to watch this at all.  I wish I’d not seen it.
But I will love them always………….recorded.  My opinion has not changed but rather has been altered to state, I love them recorded, and not live.
That’s ok though… Now I’m gonna look away….
