I posted Rough Trade’s Top 100 album s and a reader noted Polar Bears Peepers should be closer to the top. So I looked them up.
According to Wikipedia, the UK’s Polar Bears are led by drummer Seb Rochford with Pete Wareham on tenor and baritone saxophone, Mark Lockheart on tenor saxophone, Tom Herbert on double bass and Leafcutter John on mandolin and electronics.
Around since 2004, Polar Bears are considered a post-jazz experimental art band. Hmmm. if you listen to a lot of jaxx both the experimental and the post comments may leave you a bit non-plussed. Essentially, they have saxophone solos on top of a band. The modus of jazz as write large by Louis, is the band drops out for the solo and then comes back in. Not here. here the group experience is what it’s all about.
Try “Happy For You” off Peepers. It is really, really good.
